There is no need to be afraid of the third dimension. In this workshop you will discover that if you can draw, you can learn to sculpt. Participants will engage in a robust discussion of portrait sculpture from ancient through contemporary times. Working from a live model, direct measurement, as well as observational spatial relationships will be employed to aid in capturing a life-size likeness in clay. Various modeling techniques and armature and tool construction options will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on working from a live model and will also include techniques on utilizing photographic documentation as part of the process. Portrait sculpture is challenging and rewarding, so join us for an exciting week of immersion and discovery of the joy of playing in the mud.
